Tuquétt
In Gascon, this means hill or height, and the name describes the position of the chartreuse overlooking its park and the Gât-Mort valley.

Around 1730, architect Victor Louis, who built the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux, designed the façade of the sumptuous 18th-century chartreuse.
An elegant bourgeois residence in the classical style, full of character and built of stone, it is a pure example of the finest architecture of the Bordeaux region.
The château was bought in 1882 by Inès Moitessier, aunt of Charles de Foucauld, and her husband Sigisbert, a wealthy banker.
A cultured woman of the world, Inès Moitessier held a political salon in Paris and her beauty was immortalised by the famous painter Ingres in two paintings now hanging at the National Galleries in London and Washington.
Charles de Foucauld stayed at Le Tuquet many times, a place he loved. In 1884 he stayed there for six weeks at a decisive point in his spiritual journey.
Now covering 30 hectares, the historic vineyard of Le Tuquet is planted on the magnificent terroir of the northern Graves.
This terroir of sand and pebbles drains the water, forcing the roots of the vines to dig deep into the soil, giving powerful grapes and fruit-driven wines.
Sustainable viticulture, with mechanical tillage and the use of biocontrol products, guarantees the preservation of this beautiful vineyard at the gateway to the Graves, in line with the wishes of the new owners, deeply committed to respecting the magnificent environment in which they live.
The wines of Le Tuquet are both fruity and oaky, in the great tradition of the Graves, but have become lighter with a more modern style.
The reds are made from the two flagship grape varieties of Bordeaux, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, whose rich tannins temper the power of the fruit with elegance.
The whites are essentially composed of Sémillon, giving them a warm and fruity taste while remaining dry and very pleasant on the palate.
These are wines for sharing among friends and go very well with meals, from aperitif through to dessert.
Red wine available end of 2022
The good life at Château Le Tuquet. With its park as far as the eye can see, and the shades of green that the forest and vineyards create in the distance, the serenity and charm of the place work their magic.
A major renovation project is under way to open up the chartreuse to weddings and other functions as from 2024.
Then the large rooms on the first floor will be redecorated and modernised. The owners also intend to restore the numerous outbuildings to make guest rooms or holiday cottages, and the vast stone barns would be perfect for large parties in chic country style.
The essence of the house will be preserved, to offer a blissful break to those looking for a change of scenery in a refined setting.
From 31 May, come and buy your local picnic basket and enjoy it in the beautiful park at Le Tuquet, every Saturday from 12.30 p.m.
A tour of the cellars and tasting is available at €5 for 2 wines and €12 for 5 wines
